Secondary school is a battleground of viral drama, school bullies, and crushing expectations. For 16-yearold Jane, staying home to watch anime would be much better. Things at school take a turn for the worse when the popular girl starts picking on her. The voice inside her head amplifies her insecurities, telling her she is “not good enough,” “not smart enough,” and “not pretty enough”—until a Fairy God Delivery Beng drops off an item that will change her perspective forever.

With a touch of magic, a mirror materializes her inner “monster”: a living, breathing, chaotic-being that knows Jane better than she is willing to admit. Face-to-face with her flaws, Jane learns to manage her fears, and her confidence skyrockets. However, the Monster begins to grow, threatening to take over her real world completely. Will Jane be strong enough to see through the lies?

Helmed by award-winning Theatre Director Samantha Scott-Blackhall alongside acclaimed Designers Petrina Dawn Tan (Set), James Tan (Lights), August Lum (Music Arrangement), Daniel Wong (Sound), Genevieve Peck (Multi-Media), Max Tan (Costume Design), and Gino Babagay (Choreography), this reimagined version of The Monster in the Mirror infuses the high-stakes emotion and striking visual dynamics of a modern graphic novel into a live theatrical experience. Re-energized with brand-new, hard-hitting music arrangements and a darker staging that pulls you into the depths of Jane’s psyche, this heart-pounding, pop-rock musical explores youth mental health, bullying, and the courage it takes to embrace your own monsters.
