Synopsis
An Artful Encounter marks the end of Kimberly Chan’s year long journey into the world of Classical singing. Her residency with Gateway Theatre, under her masterful mentors Jonathan Charles Tay, Aloysious Foong and Samantha Scott-Blackhall, has culminated to this short evening of music. What started as an exploration of Classical repertoire in preparation for a competition has turned into a new found love for the lush and dramatic landscape of Classical Repertoire.
The songs chosen for this evening begins with the likes of Henry Purcell and Vaughan Williams for English Art songs, as well as the melodious styling of Henri Duparc’s French Art songs. The night then continues with the witty cabaret repertoire of William Bolcom, as well as an aria from Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera, The Old Maid and the Thief.
Performed by Kimberly Chan, under the mentorship of Jonathan Charles Tay.
This work is developed under the Gateway Arts Artist-in-Residence Programme 2018-2019.
