Embracing Differences
Understanding Differences
As a multicultural society, Singapore must fortify our multi-racial harmony and foster a collective sense of identity. The cornerstone of preserving multiculturalism begins with early education, emphasising the appreciation of diverse perspectives, understanding differences, and the pursuit of common ground. At Gateway Arts, we believe that nurturing these values is crucial for fostering positive change.
Community Engagement and Outreach
Building on the critically acclaimed and highly successful of our 2021 Behind The Wall digital and outreach programme, Gateway Arts developed another educational arts programme for schools that tackles themes of kindness, empathy and accepting differences. Titled “My Invisible Life”, the original film written by awarded playwright Jean Tay, takes a closer look at the longstanding issues of social integration and xenophobia through the eyes of students and migrant workers.
The film was screened at Blossoms of Friendship, a programme jointly organised by Gateway Arts’ partners TOUCH International and The Salvation Army. Under this initiative, groups of migrant workers will get to experience the world renowned Gardens by the Bay on complimentary tours hosted by volunteers every month. As of 2024, more than 3,000 youths and 19,000 migrant workers have watched the film.
