Yes, applicants can only apply for the financial assistance once.

Successful applicants will receive S$500 through bank transfer, limited to one financial assistance per successful application per household only.

Applicants will be able to download the application form from the website starting 18 May 2020.

The application period will be from 18 May to 8 June 2020.

All applicants are required to email the completed application form with the supporting documents to solidarity@gateway.sg by Monday, 8 June 2020, 2359 hours.

  1. Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident.
  2. Applicant must have worked with Gateway previously.
  3. Applicant must be a self-employed or freelance personnel working in the Singapore performing arts sector.
  4. Applicant must have suffered loss of income due to cancelled projects in the Singapore performing arts sector arising from COVID-19 outbreak.

Applicants who have previously worked with any one of listed Gateway entities below are eligible for this funding. This includes personnel who were engaged through third party vendors to provide services for Gateway.

Gateway entities:
a. Gateway Arts Ltd (previously known as Gateway Academy Ltd)
b. Gateway Entertainment Pte Ltd
c. Gateway Theatre Pte Ltd

These include but are not limited to performers, dancers, musicians, magicians, designers, technical and production crew, directors, choreographers, producers and playwrights.

We are specifically looking to help freelancers working primarily in ‘live’ theatre, dance, and music, who were engaged for projects in 2020 that were unexpectedly cancelled or postponed.

Applicants who are not eligible for consideration include full-time employees in the performing arts industry.

The fund is targeted at helping performing arts freelancers who rely on work in the performing arts sector for their income. If you are a full-time student or if you are under 18 years of age, you will not be eligible for this funding.

You are a self-employed person when you earn a living by carrying on a trade, business, profession or vocation. Generally, sole-proprietors registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) are self-employed. More information can be found here.

You are eligible to apply if you are not a full-time employee and do not receive a monthly salary from your sole-proprietorship and, you are working primarily in ‘live’ theatre, dance, and music, who were engaged for projects in 2020 that were unexpectedly cancelled or postponed.

Freelancers who earn some income from part-time employment are eligible to apply, although priority may be given to self-employed performing arts professionals who rely completely on freelance work for their income.

No. Unfortunately, with limited funds available, we prioritise those who have been working regularly as a freelancer, and whose income stream has been disrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak. You would need to have at least one paid job in the performing arts industry between July 2019 and January 2020 to be eligible.

No. Unfortunately, this fund is specifically targeted at helping performing arts freelancers who have lost jobs as a result of event cancellations and venue closures due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Even if you have received partial compensation for your cancelled or postponed project, you are still eligible to apply. We will assess each application as a whole and consider other factors surrounding each applicant’s financial situation. However, if you have received full compensation for your cancelled project(s), please do not apply as we do not consider that as income lost.

If you are able to prove that you have had paid work in a performing arts event held in Singapore between July 2019 to January 2020, and you have also lost jobs due to show cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, you may apply. Cancellations of school shows or concerts qualify as performing arts event.

Projects that qualify are ‘live’ performances in theatre, dance or music sector, as these are the kinds of events that had to be unexpectedly cancelled or postponed due to stringent measures to prevent community spread of COVID-19.

The funding is limited to only one per household, so a couple can only submit one application instead of two.

Dependents refer to an applicant’s immediate family members who relies on the applicant’s income to support them and are living in the same household in Singapore. Please do not include domestic helper. Please provide an explanation if the dependent does not live in the same household but relies on the applicant’s income (e.g. child maintenance for divorcee).

  1. Documents that show proof of (at least one) paid work done in Singapore performing arts sector between July 2019 to January 2020 (e.g. payslips, signed contracts);
  2. Documents that show proof of income loss:
    1. Official letter/email cancellation or postponement notices for all paid projects* between February 2020 to December 2020;
    2. Signed contracts or Letters of Agreement for all paid projects* between February 2020 to December 2020;
    3. Where signed contracts or letters of agreement are not available, documents that show proof that there was intent to engage applicant’s services (e.g. email correspondence with the director or producers, rehearsal schedule with applicant’s name, etc);
    4. Quarantine Order/Stay-home Notice (if applicable); and
  3. Documents to support justification of why you need this financial assistance (e.g. urgent medical bills or essential expenses).*Supporting documents are not required for projects engaged by Gateway Arts Ltd, Gateway Entertainment Pte Ltd, or Gateway Theatre Pte Ltd.

The Government recently announced several new schemes to support families and workers. From 1 May 2020, you can apply for the COVID-19 Support Grant if you have lost you job. You can also find out if you are eligible for help under the Self-Employed Person Income Relief Scheme (SIRS). More information can be found here.
